Weekend Update

My sweet friend, Melissa, hosted an amazing baby shower for me on Saturday:

She fixed lots of yummy brunch food since she knows how much I love breakfast and brunch! Here is a sampling:

It was such a blessing to be surrounded by ladies I love and we were indeed showered by love and gifts we can use in welcoming our little boy very soon!

Later in the afternoon, we surprised Emily by taking her to see the new Veggie Tales movie. This was her first big screen movie and I'm not sure she knew what to think initially. It was so BIG and so LOUD! She did seem to have fun, though this movie was a bit more intense than we had realized for a three year old. And, I'm not sure I heard God mentioned at all in this movie. It did have a good message - but we won't be in any hurry to own it or see it again and may not have gone if we had realized all of this.

Emily in the big theater chairs:
Pointing out the "bad guy"And, after a quick dinner at the mall - a ride on the carousel was a great finish to our evening!

Thanks for all the great comments and questions on freezer meals and ideas. I will be responding to those later today. I'm planning to post the last freezer post tomorrow - though it will just be what I had hoped to complete.

After a visit to the dr. on Friday, I'm on a lot more medication to slow contractions and I have started dilating, so bed rest is still an option after my next appt. tomorrow if things have changed at all. We'll see. I've been sitting down and laying down a lot - watching a lot of movies and reading a lot! I'll keep you updated - thanks for praying!

Hi Monica,
We took our little boy Andrew to see the movie this weekend. He is 2 but is a huge veggie fan.HUGE. Anyway, I was disappointed that God wasnt meantioned in the movie also, I mean it is veggietales.Nevertheless, Andrew loved it.

Hi Monica,
I've always had to take medication for early contractions/premature labor too...usually starting around 20 weeks. Plus those betamethisone (spelling?) shots for lung development. I also had to do bed rest as well, especially before our twins were born in 1991, but I didn't have other children at the time that needed me...well unless you count 23 second graders! LOL I taught from a chair until the doctor said to go home and don't move! LOL You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers!
And I pray that you will be able to stay 'undelivered' until the right time, and that when it is time God will bless you and the baby with a good and safe delivery! I know lots of people are lifting you up in prayer!
God bless and thank you for all your great ideas and inspiration!
Blessings,
Amy O.

What a blessing your shower must have been! There are some really cute boy clothes available.

Even though the movie might have been disapointing I am sure that just the experience was exciting enough for Emily! Great pictures.

Best wishes on your next doctor appointment. I can imagine how difficult it would be to have bed rest and your two little ladies to care for. I hope your little man decides to delay his appearance a while longer!

Your shower sounds great.

I didn't realize the movie was already out, but your comment made me curious, so I went to the website too see if it said anything that would address this. . . On the pirates page, there is a link to something like "questions with bob and phil" where they talk about the biblical message of the movie etc. I'm wondering, since you've seen the movie, what your take on what they say there is-

Glad you had a great weekend, baby showers are so much fun! I will be praying for you, that your baby will stay put until God is ready for his arrival. Take it easy and just enjoy rest when you can.

What a blessing to have friends surround you and "shower" you with love! Am lifting you and your sweet baby boy up in prayer, Monica.

Thank you, ladies!

Jenn - I would agree that as an adult, I could see their messages in the film. But, as one of the gentlemen says - it is in the form of allegory. I wonder how many children will really figure that out?! I'm not trying to sound negative about the film, because some things that don't mention God can teach incredible lessons - it just wasn't what we had expected with Veggie Tales. Hope that helps.

Oh I am so glad you had a good shower. It is so nice to feel you and your new baby are celebrated. I kinda felt bad for Luke as he just didn't seem to be as celebrated as Bri was. Partly my fault as I wasn't so sure of having a boy. (you know how my opinion has totally changed on that one) ;o) I hope you got lots of cute little man clothes and you are well taken care for the near future. So Sorry that the Movie was somewhat of a disappointment. I hope VT's isn't going down the route of not mentioning God to get a bigger audience.

I will continue to pray for you and I hope everything goes well with the delivery and everything. I am thinking of your family.

Your shower looked great! What a nice friend to throw one for you!

Ethan loves Veggie Tales, but I think I will rent this one now that I know what it is about. Or maybe we will see it when it goes to the second-run theater.

Monica,
We went to see the Pirates movie on Saturday as well and loved it! I was going to point out that it is an allegory(and noticed that you made that clear in the comments) and not the typical Bible story that many of the Veggie episodes are, so that could be why it wasn't as chock full of mentions of God as say, Jonah, was. It has a great message at the end. As adults we were able to make the connection, but I'm not sure very young viewers would be able to figure that out by themselves.
We loved it and felt it had a very strong and clear Biblical message and I loved how it tied everything together at the end.

I've noticed, too, that when Veggie Tales does an actual movie ,they are not geared to very little children. Not that any content is inappropriate but that they are longer, slower and not as interactive as the regular short episodes.

Last night I came across your recipe for easy dinner rolls. In it you mentioned that you freeze up what you aren't going to bake that day or the next. I am going to make a batch today with the intent of freezing them all. Actually if I have enough flour, I'm going to make a double batch but I'll wait and see.

Hi Monica. I have been thinking about you. Your sweet sister sent me a card this weekend....so kind of her!

I am disappointed to hear that about the VT movie! We are planning on seeing it still, but are these guys selling out? What's the deal??

Loving the freezer meals - I am stocking my freezer right along with you! (For no particular reason, just life!)

Sorry to hear about the possible bedrest....I will be praying for you. When are you due again?

What exciting/busy days getting ready for new babies. It was the most favorite time of my life. I'm going try your recipe for Emily's chicken this week. I do have a question, however. Do you just put 4 whole, raw chicken breasts into the casserole dish? Or are they cut up?
Thanks so much for sharing all your delicious looking recipes. My best to you and your family.

Dear Monica:

How fun that your friend Melissa gave you a shower. Your Mom didn't tell me that!! Also glad you had a fun time with Emily, at the theater & the Carousel. Did Grandmum keep Rachel?

Will be axiously awaiting a report from your Dr. visit tomorrow. I'm praying daily for you, Honey.

I love you, Grandma
